At William Barcroft Junior School, a strong emphasis is placed on pastoral care. The core of this is based on great communication both within school and between school and parents and carers. Please do keep us informed about your circumstances, so we’re able to support you and your children however we can. Our learning mentors are on the playground before and after school to chat to if you have any concerns.
We have a very strong Learning Mentor team and are very proud of the support they provide to our children and the outcome of their support. You can find the Learning Mentors on the playground in the morning and after school, or appointments can be made to speak with them in a more private setting if required.
The Learning Mentor room is a very welcoming environment and is used for group activities and games with children and also meetings with parents.
Our pastoral groups we run in school aim to support children with any worries or concerns they may have. The programmes can run up to 6 weeks or can be short intervention activities with the child. Programmes such as, ‘When our feelings get too big’, give children accessible language to talk about mental health and wellbeing. It aims to develop emotional intelligence and ensure children know who the trusted adults in their life are and how to ask them for help and support. It will also help children to understand the difference between a small, everyday feeling and a big feeling. Other groups such as, ‘I am and I can’ target low self esteem.
We welcome you at any time to discuss any queries, concerns or issues you may have.
