This term Year 3 are studying Natural Disasters around the world. We started by looking at world maps in atlases to discover our place in the world. We are confident in using and understanding compass points, map symbols and grid references. Now we are investigating tornadoes – dangerous but exciting! Do you know that London was hit by a tornado in 2006? It registered as F2 on the Fujita scale (ask your child for an explanation). Soon we will be making our own tornado in a bottle, using our enquiring minds to discover how a vortex is created. In the weeks to come we will move onto learning about volcanoes situated in the famous ‘Ring of Fire’.
